Questions about this course

I know almost nothing. Is that a problem?
No. Most adults on this course start there, and the first lesson simply establishes what to cover.
Which school of thought is followed?
Teaching gives the evidence and notes where the schools differ. If you follow a particular madhhab, say so and the teacher will keep to it.
